Is the peugeot 206 suitable for a driver of 6ft?

im thinking of buying a peugeot 206 but have heard reports of bad seating for the drivers position. Its all very well sitting in one at a garage but I would like to know how it is for lengthy periods to drive. I am 6ft 1, does anyone of a similar height have experience of driving one ?|||my hubby is 6ft 2 and found it ok, he said he couldnt exactly sit up straight cos he had spikey hair but when he didnt he was fine, we had it for over a year so im guessing it was ok for him, maybe test drive one see how u feel good luck x|||I have over the years driven both a 306 and a 206, the 306 although slightly older had a much better seating position, i was far higher and much more comfortable with the overall position and adjustments that can be made. I drove a 206 on a journey from southampton to coventry and back (to n from uni) and found the position uncomfortable to the extent of back pain and leg cramps. Im not saying that you should buy a 306 but if it is a reliable, cheap peugeot that you are after you can still get late 2000 early 2001 306 models in decent condition with all the extras you would expect from the 206 with the added room benifit. I myself now drive a red 2000 306 meridan which set me back just over 2k including air con, leather interior, alloys etc - hope this helps|||I have owned a 206 for 2 years I am smaller than you at 5-10 and I findthe driving position difficult. Not because of height I need to have the seat position right back get comfortable on long journey. This of course reduces the seat space in the back and adults have not got enough room in the back in this position. Also Ifind the pedal position awkward..size 9 feet !!.....the accelerator pedal is fine the clutch however is so close to the steering column that the outside and inside of my feet touch the well wall and the column...other than that it's the "drive of your life"..!!!!!...hope this helps|||I have a friend who has a 206, I'm 6ft but struggled to get comfortable. My head only just fitted in and was brushing the roof. Think you might be better getting something bit bigger.|||A 6ft 1 friend of mine has had one for a year and he's very happy, it's his first car and believe me he certainly would complain if he had any cause He's done several 100 mile trips without a single moan!

Where do I get spare keys for Peugeot 406?

I have just bought a used Peugeot 406 that came with a single key without the remote central locking part.

Where can I get a spare key? What do I need to do to get the remote central locking up and running?|||Peugeot UK can give you your key code - you might have this on a card already somewhere (credit card size, normally with the service docs). Should I buy a performance improving micro-chip kit for my Diesel Peugeot?

I have a Peugeot 1007 with the 1.4HDi engine. I've seen micro-chip kits for this engine that are supposed to improve the performance without affecting engine reliability. Does anyone have any advice? Are they any good? What would you recommend? Thanks.|||No, leave it alone. The kits will tell you all sorts of nonsense, they make little difference and invalidate your warranty. The little 1.4 is built for economy not speed, trade it in for a 2.0 HDI if you want a faster diesel!!|||I know its stating the obvious, but why not simply buy a 1.6 diesel? The kit will invalidate your insurance. It's in the same league insurance wise as go faster wheels, or a loud exhaust that will make you go quicker, apparantly.

How often do i need to change my cam belt in a peugeot 206?

how many miles can a peugeot 206 do before the cam belt needs changing?|||the correct answer to this question can only be determined by the owner of the vehicle doing a check on the cam belts condition on a weekly basis, some belts are given average usage lifespan but there are other factors to consider , heat, cold rain , chemical, salt

Can I fit an auto-dimming rear view mirror to my Peugeot 206?

Hi,

I'm currently dismantling a Peugeot 406 and it has an electrochrome/auto-dimming rear view mirror as well as the automatic wipers and light sensors behind the mirror. My 206 also has automatic lights and wipers, but just a normal mirror. Is there a wire behind the black rain sensor cover to plug this mirror into in my 2002 model 206, like in the 406?

Thanks.|||Wow! this is a good question for owners that would like to really work on their own car, and use parts from one car to another. Just like me.

Good to know that YOU are personally involved in the mechanical work.

However... this seems to be a website where people are only concerned about "alloy wheels??" and "what does this warning light mean?" , "what size tires and air pressure?", and, "how much will THIS COST?".

I really hope that some real Peugeot mechanics have the time to analyse the electrical schematic, actually LOOK behind the rain sensor cover as you requested, and give you an answer.

Don't hold your breath though. I'm still waiting to see if there is a mechanic in ALL of Great Britian who knows if the driveshafts of a 205 and 306 are the same. The answer to this is already TEN YEARS OLD.

You are better off looking for parts that are from a 306 or a 405. I know the diesel 205 starter motor is the same on a 405 diesel (not petrol!!).

Brake pads are the same, and maybe the brake calipers??

Is there fiat cars and peugeot cars in the united states?

Fiat pulled out of the US market in 1984. A few dealers remained to sell the last of the cars and service existing customers. Today, there are no official Fiat dealers in the US. There are numerous independent repair shops and parts suppliers to service existing Fiat cars.

Parenthetically, Fiat's sports car brand, Alfa Romeo, stuck around in the US market until 1995

Peugeot pulled out of the US market in Sept 1991, after the model 405 failed to gain positive sales numbers. At the time there were 151 dealers in the US and approx. 60,000 Peugeot cars on the road. Today, like Fiat, there are used Peugeots for sale (check e-bay or Craigslist) and a number of repair shops and parts suppliers.|||Peugeot is a French company and Fiat is Italian. Both have been selling cars in the U.S. for many years. (The Fiat 128 Spider was a neat 2 seat convertible sports car imported in the 60's-80's.)

Fiat incidentally is trying to buy Chrysler - Dodge right now.

The Lamborghini company is now owned by (would you believe) Volkswagon, who bought it in 1998.|||If you are in the USA, they used to sell them here, but they left the US because of sales and poor reliability and durability. Now that Fiat has taken over Chrysler, Fiat will be back within a couple of years. I like both cars. If you are in most other countries, they are probably still available.|||Yes there are dealerships for both vehicles in the United States. As a matter of fact, Chrysler bought in to Fiat quite some time ago. I do not know if they still partner with them or not.|||Both Fiat %26amp; Peugeot do not sell cars in the US.

How to tell if a head gasket on a peugeot 206 needs replacing?

What are the signs to spot to see if my head gasket needs replacing? I have a 5 year old peugeot 206?

Thanks :-)|||Yeah Peugeot's are renowned for head gasket failures.

Check the coolant reservoir for signs of oil or fuel in it (give it a smell).

Also leave the cap of the coolant reservoir and start it up and give it a wee rev. If its chucking all the coolant out the reservoir then that is a major sign of gasket failure.

Also remove the dipstick to check for signs of coolant in the oil, when water mixes with oil it leaves a white creamy residue. Also check the under side of the oil filler cap.

A common sign would be a misfiring of the engine as water would leak into one of the cylinders and you would see some amounts of water or steam coming from the exhaust.

You would really need to get it to a garage to get an opinion from someone who can inspect it. A head gasket is not simply diagnosed.|||At five years old, I highly doubt it needs replacing. BUT, some signs are oil leaking at the top of the engine block and coolant seeping out of the exhaust. At least that's what my Camry did when the head gasket warped.

How can I remove the roof arial on my 2000 Peugeot 206?

Bryce|||Bryce, save the paintwork and having a dodgy reception on the radio after removing it and putting it back on take it to a jet wash station, or a hand wash cost you a tenner and the finish is much better and if done at a hand wash you will get the inside hoovered as well and glass cleaned ( thats what it costs in Essex mate.|||You should try again it goes out clock wise. car wash machines arm paint work :)|||get a chainsaw and.....|||Just park it in the Walton area of Liverpool lol !! they will remove EVERYTHING|||Bryce, it unscrews in counter clock wise direction. Advice on when to change the cam belt on a peugeot 206?

Can anyone please advise me on when i should change the cam belt on my X reg (2000) peugeot 206? It's coming up to 54,000 on the clock and don't seem to able to find the definitive answer anywhere.|||Any Peugeot main dealer will tell you exactly what the manufacturers recommended frequency is.

Whatever it is, halve the mileage for total safety (Haynes recommendation).|||if unsure . i'd change it|||usually around 70K miles(don't know kilometers, sorry)also visually inspect the belt for glazing(shiny), cracking, and tension.

Lastly, get a repair manual. You're going to need it to do this job and for other things as well. They're cheap.|||Usually 60 to 70,000 miles is about average but you need to check the repair manual or ask them at the dealer,|||Better sooner than later.|||It depends on if it is an interference engine or not. I don't know your car but the reason is, if the belt breaks on a free wheeling engine, you need a tow is all. If the belt breaks on an interference engine you need a tow and maybe valves and pistons because of damage.

I just found this web page explanation of an interference engine and it's the best info I found.

http://www.motorwatch.com/automotivebibl鈥?/a>

Yours is not listed as interference so you don't have to change it but if it breaks than you will need a tow and a new belt put in. I wouldn't change it.

What is a sports exhaust cat bypass system for a Peugeot 206?

I am thinking of getting a sports exhaust system for my Peugeot 206 1.1

I want a exhaust system that will improve the performance.

Also it would be very helpful if you could give me any examples of good systems for this car??

Thanks :-)|||You'll be lucky to get 5HP extra at top end. It's a front exhaust with no catalytic converter which, in theory, reduces turbulence allowing smoother air flow out of the exhaust at certain rpms.

You're not really going to notice any performance difference from any 1.1 206. The key to performance is to reduce as much weight as possible, fibre glass bonnet, tailgate and wings, perspex windows and such.

After you've done all that, then you should be thinking about sports exhausts and wider tyres etc. Also, keep it looking almost original on the outside, scoops and body kits will slow down a 206 at speeds above 55.

I almost forgot to mention high lift cams, but this is best left to a professional mechanic.|||I agree with the first answer.

Messing about with the exhaust and trying to modify your engine might also invalidate your insurance or make your car fail on emissions so I suggest you make your car look smart and individual and keep it simple.

My peugeot 306 has several things that don't work on it. . . .central locking, interior lights (works when manually switched on but not when you open door) passenger side electric window (works when controlled by driver controls) cigarette lighter, the clock, and the controls next the steering wheel that change the radio. I have checked all the fuses and they are working! any clues as how to fix?|||There have been a lot of tips right here on Yahoo answers. I read everything about Peugeots.

1. door problems. cables inside door hinge area get kinked and broken after several years. Check the wiring loom where it passes the hinge area.

2. GROUND wires can account for many electrical failures. In damp areas, the ground-to-body corrodes.

Your cigarette lighter and anything else NOT controled when the key is out, could be a problem inside the key ignition barrel. This is fusebox feed C, and is grounded after passing fuse 28 (15 amps). Even though you see your fuses are good...Is there any current passing through it? Check.

3. Central locking....somebody said the sensor for this is in the roof, under the radio antenna. Rain water enters to disrupt the locking remote sensor. Remove inner roof panel and check for dampness.

4. Clock and cigarette lighter have ground problems, I think. Do they work when you apply 12 volts directly to the devices? Cigarette lighter heating elements don't last forever. Is there 12 volts in the empty hole? Check with voltmeter or test lamp of 12 volts.

Search for anything here that has ''Peugeot 306'' in the question. Read them all.

I have a Peugeot Carbolite 103 and I keep popping the tires, any suggestions?

I think it comes down to me being too fat for the tires, but I am about 150 pounds. I feel like that isn't the problem. Literally one pothole will pop the tubes, but the rubber tire is fine. Is there something else I should be doing? The bike is the Peugeot Carbolite and the wheels are S23X 700C/23C; is this only made for a track bike?|||Use a floor pump with a gauge on it and keep the pressure close to the max the tire is rated for. Too low of a pressure will pinch the tube against the rim when you hit a sharp corner.|||i have two fuji road bikes 700x23c tires on both i weigh 240lbs i had the same problem, thought maybe my weight was the problem , no good the problem was with the lining inside the channel of the rim , the lining that protects the inner tube from the spoke holes in the rim. air pressure from the tube was pressing the lining against the spoke holes and over a period of time the holes cut into the lining and eventually cutting the tube from the inside not the outside. you can buy stronger lining from any bike shop.|||Hey I am about 25 pounds more! Are you calling me fat? lol

No, your weight is not the problem, and those tires should not pop like that. I think that you ride with too low pressure on them. Get a foot pump with a gauge and pump to the pressure specified on the tire wall, about 100 PSI.|||Those tires should easily support your weight. You should have at least 100 psi in the tires to help prevent pinch flats which are caused by under inflated tires|||a. put the max air you can in the tire

b. don;t hit potholes

c. 150# is fine

Does my warranty cover anti pollution problems on my Peugeot ?

I have a warning light on my Peugeot 307 telling me i have a anti pollution problem and my car runs very sluggish .Can any one plz tell me if i am covered under my Peugeot warranty ?

Also has any one had similar problems and what is the cause .

Kind regards .|||If it is due to a gradually operating cause like the exhaust particulate filter needing to be replaced it will not be covered on the warranty - that is the most likely problem. If it is down to a faulty part or workmanship it may be covered but you need to read the policy you have for that.|||You should be covered , take it to a dealer and find out, it probably needs the particle filter regenerating

I have a w-reg peugeot 306 1.4 meridian which has ABS all i wanted know if all the 306's drive shafts are all the same? as i need to change mine on the drivers side? i appreciate it thank you.|||If you want your ABS to keep working (which you are probably required to do by law) you will need to ensure that the replacement shaft has the ABS sensor ring teeth - look for a ring around the driveshaft at the outer CV joint that is made up of a lot of square teeth.

If the replacement shaft has no teeth, it will probably fit your car but you will get an ABS error. An ABS driveshaft wil work fine in a car without ABS though.

It is possible that a driveshaft out of a larger engined car may be different to yours (a 1.4 205 has a smaller spline than a 1.9 205 for example) so it is probably easiest to try to get one from a similar car to yours unless you can take yours out first to check.|||They are a little different. They all fit though, but some are different because some have ABS.|||no. some have abs, some dont. the diesel shaft is larger.

How long does it normally take for the timing belt on peugeot 307 to snap r break?

my peugeot 307's timing belt has gone and it only has 37000 miles on the clock is this normal?|||Belts can go as long as 100,000 miles. 60,000 is the mileage to start thinking/looking about getting it changed.

37,000 miles is an awfully short life for a belt.

However, if the car has been mistreated it might break at that mileage.|||Timing belt replacement timing is usually based on the earlier of two things - mileage and age.

For a 306, Haynes manual specifies a replacement period of 80,000 miles although it recommends it to be changed at 40,000 miles, particularly for vehicles which have intensive use, ie mainly short journeys or a lot of start-stop driving.

There is also an age factor in the timing belt life - I think about 4 years is normally the time to change it, even if you have only done 5,000 miles!|||No. for cars sold in CA, timing belt should hold for at least 100K miles.

Your car should still be under warranty, right?? Take it back to the dealer and have them replace the timing belt for free.|||No, not normal at all. They usually fail at 2,000 miles or less.

Is there any attachment or anything i can add to my Peugeot 206 convertible for extra storage?

The only problem is. . . I have a peugeot 206 s cabriolet so there is no tow bar and no way for a roof rack because it's a convertible.

Does anyone know if there is anything i can get? Like a trailer or rack of some sort?

Thank you|||A tow bar could be attached to your frame, under the boot. It doesn't affect the rear body metal or the convertible top. Then you could pull a small trailer with up to 500 kg total weight , I believe? legally.

A tow bar can also take a ''bike rack''. This special rack attaches to the ball, and maybe? maybe not? hooks onto the body too. 72 pounds in the UK:

You may be able to buy the 407 in California or Florida. I have seen Peugeot dealerships there.

I will have to see if the car is available with a gasoline engine suitable for the lower octanes of the US (87, 89, 91, 93). Here in Europe, the octane is only 95 or 98 at the pump. For these reasons, it may not be a model that is imported to the US.

I am 100% sure of that price.|||The Peugeot 407 Saloon costs 15700 pounds. The SW costs 16985 pounds. And the coupe costs 21295 pounds.|||If for export and without European taxes, a Peugeot 407 costs between 20,000 and 32,000 US $ depending on engine and equipment. It is a great car indeed.

How to change a Peugeot 306 Door check?

I have a Peugeot 306 that I am tring to change the door stop and door check. I have the parts but it looks like I may need to take the door panel off to gain access to the inside of the door to attach the mechanism.|||Yep the door card will have to come partially off. I had to do the same repair job to my 306. If I have remembered correctly there is a torq bolt on the under side of the door handle that you will have to loosen. If you have electric widows you will have to disconnect the switches to get the door card pulled far enough out, be careful with the switches, if they fall apart they are a bugger to put back together.

Good luck|||The door panel needs removed to fit the door check strap on a 306,or at least the front edge to get your hand inside the door Not a hard job though, but ask if you need more help.|||ok. you need a torx bit, to undo three bolts, one behind the speaker, one under the door handle, and the last under the window switch (just gently lever it up). you also need to slide off the piece of plastic on your side of the mirror, once done slide a flat blade (not sharp) under the door card near the mirror and work around the door card, till it is free, you can disconnect the wires from speaker and window switch, then its just a bit fiddly to work the damaged door check out after undoing the two 10mm bolts, replacing is vice-versa. and your done. How to tell what gears are on a Peugeot bike?

I bought a used Peugeot. no indication of numbers. how do I know what the gears are?|||What do you mean by this? If you know how to count, do this: First, count the number of sprockets at the rear wheel. Next, count the number of chainrings on the front where the pedals are. Multiply the number at the back by the number at the front. this will give you the number of theoretical speeds you have. Next, you have to count the number of teeth each chainring and cog has. then you have to do some real work. You have to look at your wheel and tire size and calculate what gear you are in with every possible combination you get from the chainring/cog counts you have compiled.|||If you mean speeds than two in front and 5 in back is a ten speed. Or two in front six in back is a 12 speed.

I have a 5 year old peugeot 206, i understand that it npow requires servicing as the spanner light has now come on. What type of service do I need?|||If you have not done MAJOR service now is the time!

1. A new timing belt is a MUST, you have waited too long. Usually the water pump is also replaced at this time, whether bad or not, because it is inside the engine too and driven by the new timing belt.

2. New spark plugs. These don't last 5 years.

3. Have your battery tested for amperage and holding a charge. Batteries last about 4 years. Yours may be too weak for next winter?

4. Your garage people will hook the car up to a computer that reads the performance of all electronic "sensors". Get ready for a bad one or two....

What happened to the blue fibreglass disabled cars that look like Peugeot 206 convertables?

I was looking at a Peugeot 206 Convertable the other day and the shape sort of reminded me of the blue fibreglass 3-wheeled cars that used to be given to disabled people back in the '60s and '70s. The ones with handlebars instead of a steering wheel. They sounded like lawnmowers but you could get 60 out of them.

Then I realised they all seemed to disappear at once.

What happened to them?|||There was a few accidents involving them so they where deemed to be unsafe .the government introduced the motobility allowance so that disabled people could buy a normal car of their choice many where unhappy when they where taken out of service but soon realised the benefit of the new scheme as they could now drive family, friends or carers around with them I believe many had to take a new driving test though as the three wheeler only needed a motorcycle licence to drive it|||They were deemed unsafe so they were scrapped,Disabled people were given a grant instead to buy four wheeled cars.|||They were all turned into Peugeot 206 convertibles........|||I remember them from when I was a kid. Peugeot 106 - Water sloshing around the under steering wheel?

Hi everyone, I am having problems with my Peugeot 106 1.1 XN Zest (T Reg - 1999).

I noticed on Saturday that I could hear a noise that sounded like water splashing around in a container coming from under the steering wheel. I also noticed when I returned home that there was a patch on the floor near where I had been parked but this was on the passenger side.

I have got no idea what it could be. I have checked the carpet under where the pedals and that is dry and I have checked the lids on the screenwash fluid etc to see that they haven't come loose. It still seems to drive ok but I am getting concerned. The temperature light hasn't come on or anything to indicate overheating.

I know the obvious problems are that it is French etc lol. It is approaching 110,000 miles but other than that problem it drives fine. I have just spent a bit of money on it so I would rather not get rid of it just yet.

Thanks for all your help.

How do I find my peugeot car tyre pressure? translating it from the french system to UK system???

The handbook for my peugeot 1007 indicates that the tyre pressure should be "2,6"

The machine at the garage here in the uk can be set between 21 and 40.

It's obviously a translation thing between the french system and the british system but i dont know how to do it?|||2.6 bar is 38 psi (well, 37.7 to be precise). Buy and use your own pressure gauge, those at filling stations can be inaccurate due to the rough handling they get.

1 bar = 14.5 psi|||go online or contact a peugeot dealership and find out.|||If all else fails put 30 all round you wont be far away.Do it when the tyres are cold though as the air expands after travelling distances|||Some garages have a chart showing the different pressures for certain cars or you could nip to Halfords and have a look in the UK version of the Haines manual for your car.

Or you could try this conversion website

1 "bar" = aprox 15 pounds square inch Psi (Imperial) as in 21-40 Psi of garage machine. therefore 15 x 2.6=39 Psi though this sounds a bit high to me. Maths are not my strong point! phone dealer. Always inflate tyres when cold, as the air in the tyre expands when hot increasing the tyre pressure.

Beware garage air inflation machines are RARELY accurate could be out by a few Psi best obtain tyre pressure gauge from Halfords.|||The continental system is in BARS (1 bar = 14psi, 1 bar being 1 atmosphere)

Is the peugeot 406 deisel engine the same as any other car?

I have been looking everywhere for a certain part on my peugeot 406 1.9 td. The part i am looking for is a metal radiator pipe located on the front left of the car.

I have triedbut cannot find one.

Deos anyone know the name or part number for this?

Deos any other peugeot's have the same engine as this car?|||The citroen 1.9 td is the same .|||Citroen and Renault also use the Peugeot engine|||Citroen ZX, BX, Xsara, Xantia, Dispatch, Synergie and Peugeot 306, 405, 406, 806 and Fiat Ulysse all use this engine. Renault DO NOT use it. Your best bet is try a dealer as parts change frequently so you may find a 406 that's slightly older or younger than yours but the part could be completely different.

What would happen if a wheel bearing went in my peugeot 306?

What would happen if a wheel bearing went in my peugeot 306and i didnt get it replaced straight away?|||I put a couple thousand miles on a bad wheel bearing in my 88 escort. It make a lot of thunk.thunk.thunk.thunk noise and eventually seized. When it seized the hub was spinning in the bearing which ruined the hub. Cost of bearing: about $8 cost of hub $55. It's your car and your call, but I wouldn't risk more damage for $8.|||It depends what you mean by 'went'. If it actually 'went' as in let go, the wheel bearing would collapse and you could very easily lose control of the vehicle and crash. It really isn't worth risking it, if you have been advised that a bearing is going get it done immediately. You will be responsible if you seriously injure or kill someone and it really could happen. Also if you were involved in an accident the investigators would examine your car and you'd be in a lot of trouble.|||id get it repaired asap

Take it along to a decent dealer who might give you a good trade-in offer and buy a car with problem-free side mirrors.

;-)|||You shouldn't need to have to remove the full inside door trim.

You probably only have to (carefully) unclip the small plastic trim from the inside of where the mirror fits, then there will be three bolts that fit the mirror to the door. Undo those, and the mirror comes off (may be easiest to do with the window open, so you can hold the mirror while undoing the bolts on the inside).

A new (or scrap-yard sourced) mirror will bolt on the same way.

There's probably a rubber seal between mirrir and door too - if the new one doesn't have one, re-use your old one.

Then replace the plastic trim on the inside (may need a light bang with a fist), and you'll be good as new. Should take 5 minutes.|||you may need to remove the door trim

How many speakers are there in a peugeot 106 quicksilver?

How many and what size speakers are there in a peugeot 106 quicksilver|||No one has answered you in 2 days?? sorry.

I'm guessing that in a entry level 106, there might be 4 speakers. 2 in the dashboard corners, and 2 in the doors?

If you have NO radio or CD player now, you will probably still have the wires in place for a future CD/radio player. Look for the plastic connector and count the thin wires. Two thin wires for each speaker. You will find this connector BEHIND the plastic dash panel where the radio would normally be installed. It will just be hanging there, waiting for a radio.

Two fat wires will be the 12 volt input (red) and maybe a ground wire (black or maybe green/yellow)

I'm guessing here, but it beats a NO ANSWER.

My Peugeot 206 engine almost shuts off while pressing the clutch?

I have a 1999 Peugeot 2006 that recently started giving the above problem with the engine. The problem does not always occur, however, sometimes when pressing the clutch the engine's rpm goes so low (well below 1000 - have seen it going as low as 200) that it either shuts off or is close to shutting off. I have taken the car to a mechanic but they weren't able to fix it. Does anybody have any hint?|||I think that your "release bearing" or "throw-out bearing" has worn down too thin, or it doesn't spin freely on the clutch shaft.

When you push in the clutch pedal, your clutch plate is not fully released from contact with the flywheel. Therefor, there is still a feeling of still being IN GEAR, and when the car is at a stop sign, it stalls, or almost stalls?

Do you have the required pedal movement from top to floor? Is it 14 cm +- 0.5cm? I don't know the proper 206 distance, but this is VERY important too, to insure clutch disengagement.

There is some resistance to the free spinning flywheel that lowers your rpms. Does your "release bearing" also make a grinding, or high pitched noise? Have you ever adjusted or replaced your old clutch cable?

The clutch has nothing to do with petrol flow, or air intake, or eletricity to lower your rpms. I'm surprised the mechanic found no problems????!!

If the bumper dosn't work is it expenssive 2 get it lowered?

Thanks.|||See my answer to your similar question. I own three 205's now, 4 others in the past.

Here is my advice from experience for a 205, 16 years old:

For a 1991 205, I think you should be ready for the "eventual need for the head gasket to be replaced. This usually happens around 160 to 200,000 km = 100 to 122,000 miles.

The rear brake lines go over top of the petrol tank, and this causes them to rust out in time.

The door locks wear out, and the key no longer works in the driver's door. Around 100,000 miles, the ignition keyhole might also give you trouble from wear.

Listen very closely for front wheel bearing noises. Little "cement mixer" grinding noises. Bearings cost 60 euro each, SKF brand, not Peugeot brand. plus installation fees.

BE VERY sure of the last time a "timing belt" was replaced. This is a must at 80km = 50k miles? intervals. If the owner doesn't know.. then change it yourself right away!

If the steering feels stiff and difficult, this is a bad U-joint or 2 bad U-joints in the steering column. Cannot be repaired, only replaced.

Look for moisture and brown patches INSIDE the headlights. The MOT might not like that. The glass front can be re-glued to end moisture, but the brown = loss of silver coating, cannot be repaired.

The lowest point of the exhaust pipe, under the TU engines, is notorious for rusting thru. Rain water hits it continually. This piece is 100 euro where I live.

Try to see the car on a frosty cold morning. YOU WANT the back window to be foggy. Turn on the rear defroster button and see how many defroster lines DON'T work. My guess is at least 3 lines out of 13 don't work. This is 'tolerable' unless the 3 lines are all in the middle.

Aaron|||Whoa children..I am still driving a 1990 205 and just passed the MOT yesterday (the Belgian version of the MOT)

LOOK at all the "thumbs up" here for people that recommend spending even MORE money than necessary....your money. (for another car)

Your 1995 Peugeot 205 has a XU engine. And these MANUAL gearboxes are called the BE 1 and the BE 3. but you should hunt for the newer, improved BE3 This same gearbox can be found on older 405 models too.. This will fit on your 205 when you remove the ZF4 HP 14 automatic transmission, sump, fluid cooler, etc.

If you get a BE3 that is second hand, from a wrecked car, I don't think it would be expensive at all. Here in Belgium I can buy a complete car for 200 Euro. (wrecked). but the gearbox is fine.

These gearboxes can be removed from the car in the driveway with common hand tools. Don't let "armchair mechanics" discourage you from swapping gearboxes yourself. You will also need the gearshift, linkage, clutch pedal and linkage, clutch cable. (Buy a NEW cable, not used)

If you are happy with your current 205, and know it's history, then KEEP IT. don't start off with a different car with new problems.

Of course you will want to replace the clutch at the same time.

It will be a learning lesson if you take all those things off the old car yourself. AND if you have a manual 205 car that you can look at 57 times while doing the conversion job.

ALL it takes is time, common hand tools, and a similar car to copy as you work. If you need info on how to tell a BE3 from a BE1, just ask....as this letter is getting pretty long.|||I would cost you more than a 14 year old 205 is worth. Technically, that makes it a write off (repairs cost more than value).

As someone else said, it'll be cheaper (and considerably easier and more reliable) to sell the car and buy a manual.|||Thats a fairly big job mate! It will certainly cost you more than the car is worth so punt the auto and buy a manual.|||Why would you want to do this? You'll have to have it looked at to find the leaking wheel cylinder/caliper, do a repair/brake job, and then bleed it a certain way to re-center the balance valve...

It is not safe to drive now.|||Yes I agree with mike, but it can also be power break booster bad or leaking vacuum hose.|||as mike said, check the calipers and resevoiirs... might also want to check the rotors and pads as they will most probably be worn down as well.

What is the Maximium size wheels i can fit on my Peugeot 306?

I am looking to put some alloy wheels on my Peugeot 306, however i dont want stupidly big ones, but i am wondering what the maximum size wheel i can fit on WITHOUT doing any alterations to the archs. Cheers|||Without rolling the arches, 17 inch with 205/35 Tyre's.|||Hi there,

The biggest wheels we have fitted on Peugeot 306 are 17" with 205.40.17 tyres. They fit fine. No problems.

If you don't want to go that big, stick with 15" or 16", using 195.50.15 tyres or 195.45.16.

regards, Duncan|||17 inch with 205/40 x 17 tyres|||i have 20 inch on mine, but you must get setlong tyres, quite exp but looks great

How do i remove a number plate light cover on my Peugeot?

I have a Peugeot 206cc and one of the rear number plates light bulbs has blown. I need to replace this before my car has its MOT but for the life of me i cant get the cover off the light. My manual just says remove the transparent cover unclipping each side with a small screw driver, i have tried this but it wont come off, has anyone done this before, is there a certain technique to getting the cover off.|||you need to push a small screwdriver up the ends and ease it down gently, one end at a time|||Sounds right to me,maybe you need to be a little bit more forcefull?|||U should b able to get at the bulb from inside the boot under the carpet

How do i change my peugeot 206 wing mirrors to manual?

I have a peugeot 206 Y reg, i broke my wing mirrors and they were electric but its too expensive to replace.

Does anyone know were i can get reasonable electric door wing mirrors or know how to change to manual ones.

Thanks|||Not sure how you managed to break both but a local breakers yard will have replacement electric ones or even manual ones. Easy to change as you literally just swap them over but you will need the interior trim with them as well for the adjustment arm to poke through.|||cheap fix - put them in the position you use them and seal in place with silicone caulk

How easy is it to fit an aerial on a Peugeot 206?

My girlfriend has just been quoted 拢16 + VAT to have her aerial re-fitted on her Peugeot 206. It hasn't snapped off, someone had a go at it which loosened the bolt and it became so loose that the bolt fell off.

Pesumably it's just a case of exposing the underside of the aerial fitting and screwing thre bolt back on? Presumably again you get at that by removing the courtesy light? Is this correct and how easy is it to remove the courtesy light? Does it just lever out or is there a technique?

Personally I think 拢16 (+VAT) is extortionate for what appears to be a simple job!

Many thanks in advance!|||You are correct. Save yourself some money and give it a try. If you are unable to, you already know how much it will cost.|||Unfortunately it is a notorious and devastatingly laborious process requiring 10 men with skills and knowledge of Stephen Hawkins on steroids,|||I reckon 16 quid is about the minimum a garage would charge for writing out an invoice and taking your money. You have to balance the risk of trying and causing some damage in the attempt or paying up and letting them take responsibility for a done job. It must be leaking if loose and probably the nut is hanging on the wire now. You have already sussed out half the problem - just expose your girlfriends underside and see if you can get it screwed up tight. Courtesy light will be made so you can replace the bulb so check out that bit first in the manual.

How much anti freeze goes in the newly replaced radiator Peugeot 106?

My partner has just replaced the radiator in my Peugeot 106, 1.5 Diesel (1998). He has gone out and told me that I have to now put the anti freeze in it. I have no idea how much to put in (apparently is a mix with water....) and I cant find the details in the handbook (the handbook I have isnt specifically for the 106).

Also (this is silly) I presume I pour in the anti freeze and then top up with water.....

I have no idea!

Help!!!!!!|||As the others have said, look on the container of antifreeze to get the mixture ratio for the water. I will also guarentee you that it is 50/50 ratio. A good idea is to premix the solution and then pour it into the radiator. If you mix more than you need pour it into a leak proof container and throw it in the trunk so that you have it if you need it.

You may also buy premixed antifreeze at an auto parts store, then it is simple as pouring it into the radiator until full.

Once you have it full, leave the radiator cap off and start the engine, let it run until the water inside circulates and you can feel the heat from it. This will make sure that there are no air pockets in the system. Once it is hot, then replace the cap and you are finished.

good luck|||I put 50/50 in mine, but it depends what type of anti-freeze you have, there should be a recommendation on the bottle.

Be very careful with it and wear gloves too. This stuff is ultra toxic and hates car bodywork.|||What I have always done is drain the radiator and I will put one gallon of anti freeze in it and then fill will water. The correct mixture is 50/50 but if you put a gallon in you will be fine.|||Check the label of the anti-freeze product, there is a usage description of what quantityof anti-freeze to be added to the conresponding quantity of water.

Goodluck|||Contact the dealer in or near your area.

What sort of modifications can I make to my Peugeot Speedfight 2 to make it faster?

HI, ive just bought my Peugeot Speedfight 2 Iron-x today for 拢750, 57 plate, 3700 miles, imaculate condition. I was just wondering what I can do to it to make it faster? and what sort of makes should I buy for exhaust and stuff. Also what sort of performance should it get after the change, Thanks!|||You sell it and get a faster bike.

You've had it less than one day and already want to go faster?

Why did you buy it in the first place then?

You SHOULDNT change the exhaust, or mod it! It wasnt made for speed, it was made for ECONOMY.|||Hi, i was just like you when i got mine!

Start off with basics - Which are legal aswell!

- New Variator

- New Rollers

- New Exhaust - Gianelli, Technigas, Doppler are some great brands - Make sure you get a 'E' Marked exhaust as other will void warranties and not get passed in your M.O.T, and will destroy your engine withour specialist parts.

All these parts can be bought from Adreneline Pedstop , which is a great site i reccomend, do not listen to what others say, even though these bikes are made to be slow , they are restricted , and adding parts proffesionanlly is a safe option if you dont take things to far.

Speedfights are good strong bikes , they react to mods very well, and everyone does it! , with was i say to put on you will easily get 45 - 55 mph.

If that isnt enough get it de-restricted, but this will damage your bike overtime , but its your choice!|||Ignore anyone who states that you shouldn't change Silencer etc!

Fit a Gianelli sports Silencer or similar, and fit Malossi Variator, Clutch and Transmission Belt.

I've modded loads of Speedfights over the years, and find that the changes are extremely reliable.

I don't advise fitting Bigbore kits though, as carburation (jetting mainly) takes a lot of trial and error!

Hope this helps!|||I had an Aprillia Stealth. I asked about going faster, had it de-restricted and did about 50 on it.

However, a guy from the dealership got his to go faster, for a while, then it blew up!
